Hamtramck, MI – In a heartwarming display of community support, Hamtramck Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri has stepped in to help his neighbor, Norbert Revels, with a much-needed roof repair. The project, which amounts to $10,000, is being carried out in collaboration with Ruben Gonzalez from AIS Construction.
Revels, who has lived in his Hamtramck home for 30 years, faced significant challenges with his deteriorating roof, which had suffered extensive damage over time. The cost of replacement was prohibitive, and despite his efforts to save money, he found it difficult to reach the necessary funds.
After noticing the condition of Revels’ roof during a visit to his home, Chief Altaheri decided to take action. He recognized the need for assistance in the community and felt compelled to help his neighbor.
The roof was in disrepair, with dilapidated shingles and water damage evident inside the home. Determined to make a difference, Altaheri committed to covering the cost of a new roof and contacted Gonzalez for a quote. Upon learning of the chief’s intentions, Gonzalez devised a plan to surprise Revels with the repair.
Without revealing the details to Revels, Gonzalez and his team arrived with a dump trailer and all the necessary materials to complete the job. The unexpected gesture left Revels feeling a mix of shock, happiness, and gratitude as he watched the work unfold.
Now, with a new roof over his head, Revels expresses relief and appreciation for the support he received from both Altaheri and Gonzalez. He describes the experience as one of the best moments of his life, often expressing his gratitude with hugs for the chief.
This act of kindness highlights the importance of community support and compassion, especially during challenging times. Altaheri emphasizes that even small gestures can make a significant impact, encouraging others to lend a helping hand when possible. Gonzalez echoes this sentiment, advocating for community involvement and neighborly assistance.
